Gary Trew
Biography
Even though Gary has lived in Canada for over twenty years, his close friends and work colleagues still call him “that funny British guy” due to his accent and quick-witted sense of humour. He has successfully navigated careers in the police, the ministry, and in social work. His work as an investigator with abused and neglected children and youth has taught him the value of laughter in the face of life’s challenges. Gary holds degrees in chemistry & biochemistry, and social work. He has a deep affection for all things Marmite, sunshine, spicy food, and Cadbury’s chocolate. Additionally, he is a dedicated fan of the Brighton & Hove Albion football club and Vancouver Canucks hockey team.
Gary may not have the popularity of fellow memoirist Prince Harry. Still, Gary has kept his English accent and has met Harry’s dad and uncle. HRH, the King (then a lowly Prince), muttered a few words to Gary on his passing out parade as a Sub-lieutenant (flying duties) in the Royal Navy. Gary’s other “claim to fame” was that his German uncle was buddies with the man who (allegedly) assassinated Rasputin, the mad Russian monk.
Gary also writes under the pen name of Denny Darke and has published two noir comedy crime fiction books: The Man with the Pink Sombrero and An Eye for an Eye: The Mallet Murders.
